Rock Hudson was born Roy Harold Scherer, Jr., on November 17, 1925, in Winnetka, Illinois. He was a big, strapping hunk of a man, a former Navy aircraft mechanic, mail carrier, and truck driver whose gorgeous good looks were his ticket to Hollywood — despite his notorious inability to remember dialogue.
